  • Biography

    Michelle is a Bristol based artist whose work focuses on intaglio printmaking. Her etchings are handprinted in small editions on handmade paper using oil based inks. Michelle’s work focuses on atmosphere and mood where the act of seeing transforms into one of feeling. She is inspired by the everyday and overlooked, seeking to capture moments that invite the viewer to pause, contemplate, and find their own story within the artwork. Michelle is a member of Spike Print Studio and has exhibited widely including Bankside Gallery, RWA, RBSA, Ironbridge Fine Arts, AKA Gallery, 44AD Gallery, North Street Gallery.

    Explore Spike Island, a former Brooke Bond tea-packing factory, now an international centre for contemporary art at Open Studios. Home to over 70 artists’ studios, Spike Print Studio, UWE Bristol Fine Art, as well as many other creative practitioners including designers, filmmakers, architects, animators and photographers, Spike Island is a key contributor to the cultural life of Bristol and the South West.

    This hugely popular annual event gives you access to explore the studios, see works-in-progress, learn about different creative processes, and buy unique work directly from the artists. The family-friendly programme includes events, performances and workshops for you to test your own creative skills and experience artists’ ideas first-hand. In Spike Island’s galleries, discover major exhibitions of contemporary art by international and South West-based artists.

    Our Annual Printmaking Competition illuminates the diverse spectrum of printmaking techniques, encompassing both traditional and contemporary methods, and provides a platform to honour and celebrate excellence in printmaking today. Successful applicants will be featured in a 10-week Exhibition, hosted both physically at our gallery located in the Ironbridge UNESCO World Heritage site as well as included in a virtual exhibition.

    Event: RBSA Print Prize Exhibition 2024

    Venue: RBSA Gallery (Royal Birmingham Society of Artists), Birmingham, West Midlands

    The RBSA Print Prize is a biennial exhibition, celebrating all forms of print making, which supports artists from across the UK and further afield. With a significant number of print works held in the RBSA Collection, print making is firmly intertwined with the history of the RBSA and many current Members and Associates work primarily in this media.

    With both contemporary and traditional techniques and approaches on display, including screen printing, linocut, monoprint, etching, woodcut, lithography, and dry point, the exhibition is a wonderfully diverse show championing a medium that is often overshadowed by others.

    Venue: Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, UK

    This dynamic, varied and uplifting exhibition includes a stunning array of painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, installation and mixed media artworks, and is a showcase of some of the most exciting artists from across the country and beyond.

    Amongst the artworks on show are two watercolour paintings by His Majesty King Charles III - a unique chance to see the work of a reigning British monarch alongside art by a wide range of other artists.
