About Michael Hemming

  • Biography

My working method relies on grabbing images from the real world and developing them into an abstract form representing a place or an idea. Each painting goes through a series of stages from initial mark making through to the application of paint, glazing and the adding of bold lines giving depth and a strong definition to the completed work.

Inspiration comes mainly from the three south westerly counties of England; Dorset where I live, picturesque Devon & the rugged landscape of Cornwall.

All my paintings are created using high quality materials which are designed to be archival and should outlive many generations. The paints I use are of the highest professional grade as are the surfaces which are thoroughly prepared before painting.

My time as an artist has taken many diversions and afforded me various opportunities.
My work has been guided by experimentation using various techniques and materials, opening gateways to new ways of art production.

The journey of an artist never ends at a destination. It keeps moving forward, never to settle for too long before continuing along the road of experimentation and improvement.
