About Michael Mullen

  • Biography
I've enjoyed working in oils for most of my life, in particular to depict and represent the simplicity of the natural world. I have studied the painting techniques of Rembrandt, Turner and Constable amongst others, and constant reference to their paintings inspires and motivates me.
After Art School in the 70's, I taught the subject for many years. I now choose to paint the natural world I see around me in the north of England. I love to use layers of glazed oil paint as well as texture oil paint applied with a painting knife or coarse brush to describe the effects of light and covey atmosphere and mood.
I see my paintings in the context of global habitat loss and the essential role of conservation of ecosystems and wildlife so important for the future of mankind.
