About Melodie Thompson

I considered myself an artist at a very young age. I was surrounded by the bounty of textures in an ever changing rural landscape where the sky stretched long and powerful. It was inspiring to think about creating  that same type of moodiness and drama in my own work.  My philosophy behind each piece is shaped by something I'm thinking about that is relevant to our culture.  What I have been currently thinking about is how we view those who are radically different from us and how we can love them. I'm trying to make a connection that makes you look at our world through a new set of eyes. I want to engage with the spirit/ heart of a person or place versus the material. I work with multiple layers of very thin oil paint to create a luminosity in my work to enhance that idea.
