About Michael McNaughton
Biography
In Portraiture I am influenced to some extent by great artists whose works I admire most (Manet, Degas, Sargent, De Laszlo, Boldini, Lavery, Ancher, Chase, Duran and others), but I do not wish to emulate them. I have my own truth. I have learned a great deal from these great and important artists, and I like their work so much because it is similar in many ways to my own approach and vision in portraiture.
In my Landscape work I am primarily interested in the sky, and in the effects of light, the various moods of nature. Sometimes it is about the feeling of being there, and sometimes about a familiarity, an experience with nature we all share and recognise.
I work in oil on canvas.
