About Maurizio Paccagnella

The abstract canvases are created using an original technique of addition and subtraction; through the application of oil colors, a technique that allows for an intense chromatic effect. I create overlapping layers that, like time, stratify and conceal the past. The painted surface is subsequently carved, etched with scratches and grooves that appear like the marks of life, the succession of traces left by experiences, faces that pass by, intense emotions, and sudden events.

I work as if I were time itself, and only after numerous passes, allowing the work to breathe and its textures to emerge, do I work until its hidden soul surfaces. These paintings are unique because they require not only our gaze but also our touch: we discover that the painting we believe to be textured is actually perfectly smooth to the touch, like a mirror.
