It all begins with a photograph. The image is edited and manipulated digitally in numerous ways, eliminating unwanted detail.  Enough elements are retained in order to enable certain features to be recognised.  The final image is then projected onto a stretched canvas and the outline of the image is traced in pencil onto the canvas.  The process of painting then begins, working mainly from a computer print out as a guide for colour and tone.  Linear details are accurately maintained but random deviations in tone and hue are allowed to creep in.
