About Mario Sánchez

  • Biography

In the works of Mario Sánchez he plays with figuration through different everyday elements, mainly papers, acrylics, inks and oils. He is interested in textures, contrasts, decontextualizing elements as he pleases, playing with disparate images. One could speak of collage in his work. But rather than using the definition of this technique to describe the work he does, he states that he uses it as another resource within the work. Using torn or cut papers, flat colors and straight lines he builds an aesthetic and structured set.

Mario Sánchez's work tends to be figurative, without closing doors to the investigation of elements, materials, ways of working and aesthetics. His works start from a natural or figurative motif, using geometric elements of formalist origin to create the compositions, which he likes to define as “decompositions of figuration.” It is here where he finds a wide field of research, with which he aims to unite opposing visions of art, from the straight to the sinuous.

Mario moves creating aesthetics between contrasts, depending on moods, situations or experiences. His paintings represent society, they delimit hypothetical places where different classes are divided into a tangle of situations and experiences.

With a presence in many private collections throughout Europe, he hopes to always go a little further.
