About Marcin Leszczynski
Biography
I like to think of myself as a poet. A poetry in my life is a sort of gentle inner voice, which influences many of the things I do, like photography.
My love for photography began when I was twelve years old and I got my hands on an old FED-2 in my father’s darkroom. Before long, the photographs were at the centre of my artistic explorations.
During my studies in Institute of Polish Culture at University of Warsaw in the years between 2001 and 2008 my pictures were part of a number of exhibitions and publications; between 2008-2012 I worked in the Dramaturgy Department of the Dramatic Theatre of Warsaw where I was involved in the curation of their anthropology-focused publication Dramatika and collaborated on many amazing performances and artistic events. Later, I worked as a Media Officer for Amnesty International Poland, a great learning experience and an opportunity to make a small contribution to the protection of human rights.
Now, if you think that becoming a fashion photographer after this is a long shot… you are right, actually. In my case, I was very lucky to be surrounded by people who believed in me and encouraged me to pursue this in earnest.
I think what makes my photography unique and somehow anchored in my past is humanity in its core.
Since moving to London in 2015, I have seen my videos and photography published in Vogue Ukraine, L'Officiel Switzerland, Harper's Bazaar Poland, ELLE Vietnam, Nylon Singapore, and amazing independent magazines like Red Milk, PETRIe Inventory, Funny Tastes, Schön!, So / Chic, etc. I have also had the great pleasure of collaborating with many exciting fashion brands and designers, who have given me incredible insight and respect for the business of fashion.
