About Manfred Hellweger

  • Biography

I engage deeply with fundamental questions of meaning and value in human existence. My art reflects the dynamics of life, the constant change in the world, and the transience of all things.

My distinctive sculptures are primarily created from wood and metal—materials that symbolize both strength and transformation. I deliberately work with simple geometric shapes such as cubes, slats, boards, nails, or tubular forms. Using various techniques, I assemble these elements into predominantly figurative works that taper downward. This artistic approach gives my sculptures the appearance of dissolving vertically, generating a flowing, almost weightless dynamic.

Through this visual language, I allude to the impermanence of existence: nothing remains as it is—everything is in motion, in development, in transition. My works invite the viewer to reflect on their own transience and to perceive the moment more consciously.

Despite their reduced formal language, my sculptures are expressive and rich in symbolic depth. I deliberately focus on essentials, embracing an attitude of mindfulness and simplicity—an appeal against the increasing sensory overload and excess of the modern world.

My artistic credo is not “always more,” but rather “back to the essentials.” In an era of restless progress and fast-paced living, my work serves as a reminder that true essence often lies in simplicity.
