  • Biography

Having graduated from Norwich School of Art in 2010, Yorkshire born Lucy Fiona Morrison has pursued a passion for painting, working as a professional artist and painter in the UK. British landscapes, often depicting the alluring romanticism of nature are an inherent strand of her oil works, created using traditional methods of paint making and application.

Event: An exercise in Exploring Grief

    Dates: 9 Feb 2024 - 11 Feb 2024

Venue: Wharf St Studios, Unit A Wharf St, Shipley BD17 7DW

Unveiling a series of new sculptural paintings which feature mis-aligned canvases, alterations, or distinct missing shapes or ‘portals’, this exhibition explores the artist’s lived experience. In this series, Morrison approaches the painting process with dissonance; probing conventions associated with the painted canvas, rejecting the structures and constraints of the conventional frame. Works are uncomfortably animated, or awkwardly irregular, creating a tension that heightens the viewers emotions. The idea of understanding grief and how we navigate life with grief is the beating heart of this series of works. Viewers are invited to question the curves, contours, and silhouettes of these manipulated canvases. Wharf St. Studios, Block A Shipley Wharfe, Wharf Street, Shipley, West

    Dates: 24 Mar 2023 - 12 May 2023

Venue: Aire Place Studios, Unit 2c, Aire Place Mills, Kirkstall Rd, Leeds LS3 1JL

An exhibition exploring representations of the land, body, and mind. Landscapes have been depicted in many ways throughout history, but they are often intertwined with deeper layers of meaning. The shape of the land could be reflective of a body, a solitary tree could symbolise personal struggles or it could simply be a moment captured that explores the elements of light, space, and time. Each artist offers their own personal journey and viewpoint that encapsulates the world we see inside and outside. This exhibition showcases the diverse talents of the Associate Members of Aire Place Studios; Sarah Francis, Lucy Morrison, Ashley Farrari and Joss Cole. Aire Place Studios, Kirkstall Road, Leeds, LS3 1JL

Event: The Artist & The Other

    Dates: 26 Aug 2022 - 29 Sep 2022

Venue: Aire Place Studios, Unit 2c, Aire Place Mills, Kirkstall Rd, Leeds LS3 1JL

Aire Place Studios presents. The Artist & The Other. This exhibition showcases the artworks of 4 Leeds based artists all from differing backgrounds. There have been great strives within the visual arts sector to support artists from marginalised communities. However, does there become a point where the artists ‘other’ becomes the focus over the artwork? This project builds on Aire Place Studios’ aim to support artists from communities that face barriers to participation. We invite you as viewers to explore this exhibition and join the conversation on how we can promote a wider awareness and recognition of the value of diversity. Supported with funding from Leeds Inspired, part of Leeds City Council. Aire Place Studios, Kirkstall Road, Leeds, LS3 1JL

    Dates: 19 Jan 2019 - 9 Mar 2019

Venue: Gallery Steel Rooms, 1-5 Springs Way, Brigg, North Lincolnshire, DN20 8EQ

Endless Horizons and Ever-changing skies is an exploration of form, colour and movement within the British Landscape expressed through oil paint. Morrison uses tradition surfaces such as linen and a modern surface of copper-plate to create this original series. The chosen colours are bold and bright
selected to present the intensity of the landscape on the canvas. Each chosen colour for the palette is repeated throughout the series creating a variety of tones but with a distinct relationship to each other.
A strong focus on mark making is evident through these new works alongside exploration of defining lines and separations found where the land or sea meets with the sky. Linen provides a surface that supports a great amount of pigment, showcasing texture and depth, while the copper surface provides new dimensions of warmth and reflection...

Venue: Failbetter Gallery, The Old Wig. 55 Great Tindal Street, Birmingham, B16 8DR

    'A Journey In Textures'

Wide open spaces have always captivated Morrison. The enveloping quality of a vista that surrounds you in its entirety; fixing you in isolation. Immersed in the beauty or drama of the landscape, the viewer finds themselves exploring vivid green hilltops or windswept fields.

Morrison’s lavish application of paint is highlighted in her most recent series A Journey in Textures, representing eclectic views from her explorations of the British Isles. Sumptuous oil almost drips from the gestural marks upon the canvas that lead the eye from crashing/breaking waves, to rugged rocks to dense clouds.

These abstract representations document the character and essence of the lands in their time and place, allowing us a moment of intense focus.

    Event: Plains & Peaks

    Dates: 16 May 2016 - 28 May 2016

    Venue: Farnham Maltings, Farnham, Surrey

    Plains & Peaks

We are increasingly withdrawn from the natural landscape around us as urbanisation continues to increase. Themes of isolation and escapism have always been prominent within the work I create to be able to appreciate nature in its rawest form. To be able to capture the fleeting moment of nature in an uninhabited view. In the most part my paintings are devoid of human figures and constructions which allows the viewer to take a solitary stance and immerse themselves into the landscape. Each painting I create depicts an actual location which enables me to document the plains and peaks around us in their current form.
There are certain aspects and interests that I am constantly exploring in my work; dramatic skies, the play of light and the space, tone and colour.

We are pleased to present our latest exhibition in a series of new curated themes, exploring the art of LANDSCAPES and chemistry between URBAN and RURAL settings. This brand new exhibition concept aims to raise debate as to what we see as Landscapes and how the differing environments from natural to man-made influence and affect our perceptions and emotions towards the real and portrayed world. We are delighted to welcome artists from all over the world in our inaugural LANDSCAPES; RURAL VS URBAN including representatives from Japan, Brazil, Finland and Poland to Sussex, Norfolk, Yorkshire and London in the UK. This exciting collective of artists shows a range of techniques from naturalistic paintings by Sally Wyatt to emotive monochrome paintings by Akihito Takuma, alongside surreal photographs by Marek Emczek Olszewski to epic and monumental landscape photographs by Kimmo Savolainen and evocative cloudscapes by Janice Alamanou. We hope you enjoy the opportunity to rediscover the art of Landscapes for the 21st Century in a truly eclectic display

    Event: Colours of the Landscape

    ‘Colours of the Landscape’
    Saturday 9th February – Thursday 14th February 2013
    Station Gallery Richmond
The Station, Station Yard, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL10 4LD

This exhibition features a new series of oil paintings with an underlining sense of danger and threat from the remoteness of the scenes. The colour palette that runs through each painting presents the Yorkshire Dales in a whole new perspective.

Oils mixed with linseed and poppy seed oil are used to build up each layer of paint thinly producing movement and depth within each canvas.

Using photography and sketching Lucy has a basis of realism which is enhanced with her interpretation of the land and atmosphere; often using dramatic skies and shadows to depict movement within the landscape.

Event: Inside Outside

Biography

Having graduated from Norwich School of Art in 2010, Yorkshire born Lucy Fiona Morrison has pursued a passion for painting, working as a professional artist and painter in the UK. British landscapes, often depicting the alluring romanticism of nature are an inherent strand of her oil works, created using traditional methods of paint making and application.

Career highlights include exhibiting at The Other Art Fair, Bristol, Art Fair East, Norwich, The Great Yorkshire Show, Harrogate, The Brick Lane Gallery, London. Morrison’s paintings are held in private collections internationally.
