A year or two of pivoting

Some of you who follow my work may not have seen too many new original pieces posted for sale this year, I have been focusing on learning pattern making and adding prints and products to my repertoire! Many of these products are through print on demand, and I’m excited to be selling some of my Artworks as patterns on Spoonflower fabric - but I also had calendars printed, aren’t they just adorable (and funny!)? I made Dog and Beetle ones too :) All this is a means to an end…to provide alternative sources of income to give me more time to paint freely without just painting what seems to sell, I believe this is going to make my work better and stronger in the years to come so watch this space. The learning process I have been through in 2022 has been so rewarding and interesting, and I’m happy to have changed as a person too and I shall be continuing this throughout 2023. Happy New Year to you all.

    Single line drawings

    Single line drawings

This week I have been setting myself a few drawing excercises. I initially started drawing some Hares, but this quickly became a fascination with reducing the Hare to only a simple single line drawing....and then a horse. It turns out that it takes quite a lot of practice drawings to create one very simple minimal drawing! The single line drawings are for sale in my shop, do take a look :)

    Working on some landscapes

    Working on some landscapes

I’m not a big fan of selfies, but here I am working on two new landscapes! I’ve been experimenting with mixed media and have started off with watercolour, layered the work with ink and then followed with acrylics and further ink on top. These are 50 x 50 and will be in my shop soon 🤓

    July 2017

This week I have been going back to basics again to further practise and perfect my drawing and oil painting techniques. It's led to a little collection of oil still lives, here is a peeled satsuma nearing completion.it is likely that these will be available to buy mid to end of July (they are currently drying!)

    Developing the ink splodges!

See those ink splodges at the bottom of the picture in one of my previous photos? I'm developing them into little caricatures of 'people and their pets' like in this photo.

    Work in progress April 2017

Faced with a pack of new paper I started doing some ink portraits and moved quickly from one to another developing different techniques and ideas along the way. Soon I had some quite expressive and gestural faces, the results will be uploaded as a little collection in my shop.
