About Lorraine Brown

My inspiration comes from photos gathered on walks and wanderings; my interests ranging from dilapidated buildings and architecture to nature and wildlife, or whatever catches my eye!

In the studio I explore these themes using collage, mono-printing, painting and image transfer techniques. My process begins in a fairly arbitrary manner; building up layers of collage with scraps of old textbook pages, letters and newspapers and combing these with layers of paint. I love how some of the text and type remains visible and becomes a structure for a composition. I'm especially drawn to the juxtaposition of photographic collage  with the painterly layers, creating endless possibilities of intrigue and surprise.

I regularly exhibit in Cambridge, taking part in Cambridge Open Studios and as an elected member of the Cambridge Drawing Society.  In 2015 I was commissioned by Wetherspoon's to create two large artworks for a new premises in Huntingdon. In 2020 three of my artworks were selected for the annual national ING Discerning Eye Exhibition.
