About Lauren Bissell

  • Biography
Lauren only received one year of formal art tuition as a teenager but does not claim to be otherwise "self taught". Says Lauren, "how can I be self taught when I read instruction books, watch how-to programs and visit one art gallery after another? I love setting myself challenges ie to study an artist, maybe Rembrandt, and see if I can incorporate elements of his style into my own work, then I'll check out another old master and do the same. Consequently my style is forever moving forward, developing into something slightly different."
Lauren is a very versatile artist, mainly painting wildlife subjects but she is also a superb still life artist and produces magically atmospheric contemporary and abstract landscapes.

Currently Artist in Residence at Brownsea Island Nature Reserve, Dorset.
