Biography
Winner of the MOS 2018 Bursary Award, I am a Wiltshire based artist and received my BA hons in Visual Arts from Lancaster University, after successfully completing my Art Foundation course at Swindon Art College. Like most artists, I get inspiration from the world around me, which in my case is the domestic sphere with my three young children. Also the natural world is an infinite source of ideas; living in rural Wiltshire I find nature right on my doorstep.
I love finding and painting interesting shapes; their relationship to each other and how they appear in the field of the canvas, and then what that canvas becomes. Ideas get reinterpreted – first into the sketchbook, then onto the canvas and then many times over as I explore. Each painting is a journey during which I might get lost for a while. I reach decisions along the way but not obvious ones: trying to leave the work just off-kilter, to perhaps convey a tension. I want to say ‘This is how I chose to paint this’.
I also have an active listing on Marlborough Open Studios.
