About Kirill Kornilov

  • Biography
My name is Kirill Kornilov, also known as Kirill ‘Farke’, I am an artist and ex-graffiti writer. I began with street art and graffiti in 2006. That time I was impressed by Hip-Hop culture and started paint graffiti on a walls in the city (my nickname is a graffiti tag from that time). I chose a semi-legal part of graffiti - writing - where the quality and artistic value is matter, and made some sucsess in it. I took part in a lot of festivals, jams etc, took 1st and prize places in different cities, I was published in Russian Street Art catalog "Urban roots" and others magazines. After some pike on 2010-2012 and three-year creative crisis I change my focus to classical art: oilpainting.

I started paint with oils in 2015 and now it's my primary medium. The reason of changing the focus was my surf-trip to Bali, Indonesia where I became a surfer. It was my child dream, and the surfing, incredibly beautiful nature and the ocean are very impressed me. Interaction with that powerful elemental force with the deck defined one of my main and lovely theme in art: waves. Back in Russia I bought all I need for oil painting and start with painting waves. In addition on that I was carried away by the idea of plein air painting. Living outside the city I fall in love with fields, lakes and forests of middle-earth landscapes of Russian nature, they are inspire me a lot. I love classical Russian realistic school, like Levitan, Repin, and more expression technique like Korovin, Feschin, and spent a lot of time to read books about them and visit museums in different cities to explore their paintings.

Besides the landscapes and seascapes I love to reveal in my artworks one of my lovely kind of extreme sports: snowboarding. Three years in a row I bring an easel when I go to a mountains for snowboard trip, and try to catch the beauty of the mountains from extreme spots which are avaliable only by the deck. I got an interesting project in one of ski resort where I rode befor. My project was about the repeating of Claude Monet experience with different light conditions from the morning to the evening. I spent 9 days in art residence in Sochi, Russia and worked from life in Olympic Valley (where the olympic games took place in 2014). I chose one point of view and painted 5 paintnigs which showed how different the chosen mountain could be in the different time of a day. Theese paitnings now take part in exhibition of residents in Sochi.
