Biography
It wasn’t till I returned to Yorkshire after being a music student that realised how starved I was of its beautiful scenery and surroundings. Inspiration comes from its natural beauty especially its iconic landscapes and epic coastlines. Other sources of inspiration are my favourite local places, music and the everyday world around us. Being self-taught I've had to rely on the internet and you tube for guidance, but I think this makes my artwork fresh unique and unjaded. I spend a lot of time planning and researching a new piece first before I start. I do love the excitement of an empty canvas and the creative promise it brings, having all my paints ready to go, a cup of Yorkshire tea plus my trusty old antique Bush radio set tuned in to a late evening jazz radio show, this routine helps me get in the artistic zone.
I have found that creating art to be a good release from pressures of the day and a way of reconnect with the physical world via the act of painting itself. Now I want to try and bring what I have learnt from creating music as a student back in to my artwork as the process is very similar, especially when it comes to finishing off a piece of work and not over doing it. As adding more to your creation is only going to ruin that fresh perfect moment you have just captured. I want to share this physical reconnection with the observers of my art and make them aware of how everything in the world is connected even our unseen thoughts.
