  • Biography

I have been discovering methods of making within my practice, which gives me a way of escaping into my imagination. I really enjoy the complexity in the process of my making through casting or sculpting porcelain. Once cast the pieces are refined and individualised with finer details of the domestic settings of my childhood memories. To do this I use ceramic paints, lustres and photographic ceramic transfers. All giving me a resolve in making precious memories kept safely within a delicate material, giving them the empathy they deserved. Irish born and now living in the Cotswolds, I discovered through my research that my strong sense of not belonging had been wrongly misinterpreted as wanting to return home to Ireland and settle one day. It was not to return to Ireland, but to return to my safe golden years of childhood. There is no return to the golden years, only in memory which can fade over time or recollection. I did, however, return in my artwork to my safe place, to perhaps fix the feelings and memories that haunted me. I also wanted to gain a sense of home within this foreign land and I have finally developed a sense of belonging. With age we learn how to handle life better, but there is nothing like reality to show you something that makes you re-evaluate everything. I have learned that life is mostly a product of our own actions and only oneself is responsible for our own happiness and with that create happiness around us.
