About Katarzyna Sikorska-Gawlas

  • Biography
My name is Katarzyna Sikorska-Gawlas and I am an artist from Poland’s Silesia region working mainly in oil technique. My interest in painting dates back to my childhood, when in the albums of famous painters I tried to fill the blank spaces with my own works. Then it was time for a high school with an artistic profile as my father was a sculptor. Finally, I graduated from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Silesia in the field of painting and became an Appointed Teacher in the field of fine arts in the late-2000s. Privately I am a lover of mountains, sea and active recreation. In my paintings I try to capture the fleeting moments of the natural scenery. I paint places that charmed me, with which I feel an emotional connection. On the canvas I present not only pictures but also the impressions that accompany me. I use a number of means of expression for this. From a soft blurry stain to thick paint - impasto where you can feel the texture. My paintings have many threads and layers applied in stages. Even from a calm picture, I want to bring out something mysterious that cannot be seen at first glance. I like the dialogue between the line and the stain. I like to combine the multitude of shades of blue and often study them in my paintings. The water of the sea and the sky make this task easier for me.
