About Karmen Kraft

  • Biography
I studied art with a major in conservation and restoration. I live in Berlin and I am an artist in this multidisciplinary city.
Why do you create? Because I can't imagine not doing it. Playing with colours, compositions and textures makes my daily routine exciting. My creative process is very slow... I like to organise each colour so that it finds its place in the painting. As a restorer I am amazed by the small details. I really like working on paper as it acquires a very rich texture with ink and acrylic markers. The fibres are impregnated and make the colours vibrate. I leave the acrylics added with gouaches and finally with a palette knife for canvas and wood. The latter is ideal for finishing with resin, making the golds and shines immortalised. I usually use whatever I have at hand, paper, chalk, pastels, charcoals and, of course, gold leaf... always looking for harmony. Mixed media inspires me and leads me to explore. The stroke of charcoal, of marker, thicker, thinner, playing with that alternative, adding colour, texture, that last piece of paper bought would be wonderful, and what about ink with resin? That glitter, gold leaf, textured or not, pink or green, yellow eyelashes... is an example of what inspires me?
    Cheers,

    Karmen Kraft
