About KARIN DAWN BEST
Biography
I am a self-taught artist and a “late bloomer” as I started painting when I was 50 years old. I grew up surrounded by the vibrant colors of the Caribbean and those colors influence my work greatly. I use a variety of media for my work. Oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastels and other mixed media items. My work focuses predominantly on Caribbean culture and scenery but there is also a wide selection of floral paintings.
I was born and raised in Trinidad & Tobago. I have also lived in Jamaica, England, Canada, and am currently residing in Pittsburgh, USA.
My work has been displayed
in shows and galleries and I have also been commissioned by embassies and art
collectors worldwide. I have won many
awards, among them a plaque awarded by the New York Times in Tampa for ' Excellence
in Art for Women.'
I am retired and spend my days painting in my studio
recreating treasured memories of my homeland on canvas. I also paint by
commission; so you are welcome to contact me for your favorite scenes and
places and paintings of your homes.
