  • Biography
    Welcome to my shop!

After finishing my MA a studio colleague and a mentor once told me " Karen, you have this constant battle between your skill and knowledge as a painter and as a draughtsman" How right they were! That's my battle; to try and bring the two together,  allowing for my love of gestural expressive painting, fine details and technique. A paradox if ever there was!

My work has always had two influences, landscapes and animals. I am a bit of a painting technique freak, be it using grisaille underpainting technique ( for very traditional works) to underpainting colour techniques and texture for more contemporary works, where I can be more expressive with brushwork and mark making.

Who can I say influences my work? Many artists past and present..... Degas, Caravaggio, Richter, and Blackshaw to name but a few!
