    Inside studio

It was very cold in Los Angeles in January 2023 and I had to move my work from the 43-degree shop indoors to a very livable 72-degrees inside. I took over our bar so my progress wouldn't stop, which allowed me easy access to tequila, which kept me warm, and other accoutrements to keep me focused and creative. :) (Don't you love our Dino car hood made by Los Angeles artist Chris Bonno)

    Major reinforcements

    Major reinforcements

When I shave the face off the TV sometimes the stabilizing elements get stripped away and I need to shore up the piece with hardware brackets, recycled wooden blocks, screws from the original TV and carpenter's glue.

    Touching up

    Touching up

Most of the TVs I use I don't refurbish because the patina of years of use is part of the history of the piece, but sometimes I do touch-ups so the wear doesn't distract.

    Does someone need a knob?

Most TVs I salvage don't come with knobs, so I have to find the exact ones, or close approximations, on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Ebay, Etsy and garage & estate sales.

    I'M NOT A HORDER!

You never know when you'll need something, so I save everything, including sawdust from the TVs I dismantle.

    Old School

Sometimes my circular saw doesn't do the trick and I have to break out my father-in-law's saw to finish the job.

    Making cigarettes

A friend commented on a scrap piece of tester board and it inspired a collection of 20 larger-than-life cigarettes featuring advertisements from 1950s cigarette ads.

    Recycling

    Recycling

Not only do I rescue old TVs from the trash, but I also repurpose every bit of the TVs to reuse them. This wooden corner brace was likely reused to stabilize the integrity of the TV that I'd cut the face off of.
