About Jitu Oghani

Right from the beginning he was fond of lines. As a child he loved watching
lines when his father as a mason, who scratch the line during first layer of
finished plaster with scratchy tool on wet surface of newly made walls. His
love for lines continued when he took admission at Sheth C N College of Fine
Arts, Ahmedabad and started his journey as an artist afterwards.
Artist Jitu Oghani began with his pictorial composition of cityscapes titled
URBANIZATION, which explored with popular images like hoardings, traffic
lights, vehicles and symbols and lots of happenings in the ever-changing city
of Ahmedabad. He explored his understanding and perception as a painter
and he painted city scenes with great compassion. The formal elements of
painting he handled successfully. When he travelled Germany last year and
confronted the vast world of experimentation and boundless manifestation of
art. This experience vibrates his creative instinct. This made an impression on
his sensibility.
In this series of works he explores the new material with unique perception.
Thread now become line as a main tool of expression. His imagery
metamorphosed and he built his own vocabulary with threads, forks, pieces of
clothes and papers and caps of empty bottles.
His journey, which started with the subjects, travels towards the objective
manifestations. The objects with their subtle forms, the objects with their
neutral identity, dignify with the new context. Now lines born with new
sensibility regardless of material.
In some of his works the popular imagery again reflects with the new
approach. He juxtaposed some iconic image of works by celebrity painters. By
this he is in search of the essence of it’s own. Jitu Oghani put those identified
images in his own context of “Objectification” which has been titled of this
exhibition.
This is his celebration of color, line and unconventional objects. The objects,
which does not tells the formal story but weaves a very much confined stories
of visual experience. Finally, Jitu Oghani accomplished with his own visual
language.
