About Jean-Luc Lacroix

  • Biography
When people ask Jean-Luc Lacroix what the creation of his sculptures gives him, he replies that it is his life and can't do anything else. He is thinking about day and night, and alternates the various stages of the creative process.
The gestation period of a project is by far what occupies him the most: realization of sketches, investigations for the formatting of the parts or the circumvention of the obstacles, it is a permanent cogitation in which all of the elements are gathered and then it is a pure work on the technic.

Jean-Luc Lacroix studied fine arts in Paris. He now lives and works near the French capital.
He has worked on themes inspired by music and cogs for art dealers and explores 3D with steel and wood. Renowned art fairs, such as Lille Art Fair and Sm’Art have exhibited his sculptures, as well on Artsper website, represented by Galerie Maison Dauphine, in Aix-en-Provence (France).
Some of the Artist’s commissions include twenty furniture for the Grand Hotel Mercure in Le Touquet, France; a ceiling light for a private customer, his “Sniff MK2” for a Londoner collector, and numerous mail-art for Parisian galleries and cities in Australia, USA, Europe, and Russia.
Through his daily painting practice he has developed a keen sense of colors and materials with a special taste for abstraction –“a thrilling path towards inner cleansing” he said.

This artist is listed by Akoun & ArtPrice guides and is a member of the Taylor Foundation. Copyright of his works is managed by ADAGP.
His artworks are featured at Hotel Drouot Auction in Paris called "Creations Contemporaines" (with Tessier & Sarrou Study).

Some of the writings on his work with Maison Dauphine Gallery's courtesy:
"JL Lacroix or the art that repairs. One recognizes a genuine creator, because his style, his brand, his signature are a permanent rewriting of his history and of the highlights of his life. The artist is a poet who likes to thwart the rhyme: lock with sculpture, pulley, and embroidery, nail wheel lock nut... gem!
His talent in the art of recovery and his imagination in the creative reconstruction are surprising. A chair or a console in the sculptured design gives the tray of a pedal assembly the elegance of lace, a fifth wheel as a small pedestal table makes it a beautiful set to pulleys and cranks... But the effect of his work would be incomplete if it did not emphasize the humor that runs through each part: a phantasmagoric bestiary or realistic vain brightens his work, as well as suggestive names like "Hangover sewer", "Urlub " or "Brutus".

Recup'Art is a sign of our times. His great-grandfather was a "collector", at times a scrapper, slasher, junkman, and antiquarian. He had also been a horseshoer. "I was very impressed by all that junk he was amassing. Sometimes, to eliminate what he did not find it necessary to keep, he lit big braziers, and I had the great honor to use his lighter to set on fire! I remained very impregnated by this image, and maybe it is because of those childhood memories that I love grinding, welding and practice".

The recovered material has meaning only through the total transformation that is happening in the heart of the workshop: sculptures receive care and finishes which make totally forgetting the state of filth and defilation of the original material. Each sculpture can be manipulated as the most innocuous objects.
His first creative approaches are dating back to adolescence. He painted and draw for himself, and then for others. He becomes a graphic designer and illustrator, notably in the field of fantasy.  In the 80s, he worked constantly on projects for clients during the day and in painting during the night.  He created for public authorities or private individuals several monumental steel sculptures. It is a work that combines precision and pace and during which he refined his know-how, and then the final achievements."

JL Lacroix exhibits in three Galleries in France:
    - "Atelier de Gregoire" Gallery, at Puteaux, near Paris (permanently)
    - Maison Dauphine Gallery, Aix-en-Provence (France)
    - Singulier & Pluriel (near Marseilles).

    - “Art Brut et Singulier” Museum in Montpellier (France) acquired in 2014 "Loïse", a welded-steel sculpture.
