About Jayne Simmonds

  • Biography
Hi, my name is Jayne Simmonds, a printmaker based on the South Kent coast. Having originally studied Textile Design, I have had a full and eventful career as a Designer & Product Director for a number of UK brands (Wedgwood, Spode, Antler to name a few).

Throughout I have created and made in multiple mediums and at differing scales. In recent times, art and the creative process have taken on a more pertinent force, providing stability and purpose. Printmaking has become a serious endeavour; both Lino and Cyanotypes are particular favourites. Printed images are drawn and carved into the Lino by hand, interpretations of original drawings done from life. Translated into print producing a powerful and dynamic translation of a longstanding passion for plants, the garden and all things green!

Printmaking facilitates a bold silhouette, taking on a strength and grandeur, and used in conjunction with other mediums allows for experimentation and a sense of magic on the great reveal. The process means that each print is utterly unique often with a fluid application of colour that creates a magical interpretation of the image. Printmaking remains new and exciting, with more ideas than I have hours in the day, but the focus remains on floral images that are strong, graceful and up-lifting.
