About James Brunt

  • Biography
James is known for his ethereal skyscapes inspired by nature and light. A self-taught artist, James paints contemporary impressionistic pieces using oil paints, which allow him to achieve rich, textured colours. His artwork uniquely captures the spiritual essence of a landscape, whilst evoking mood and atmosphere within each of his paintings. Working layer upon layer, James builds saturation and luminosity within his paintings, emulating the radiant glow throughout the atmosphere of a sky. James feels inclined to paint saturated colour, as he believes colour has the power to directly influence the soul. James began painting in 2014 after suffering stage 5 kidney failure and attending dialysis at hospital three times a week. This afforded James the time and space to practise and hone his artistic skills, whilst providing a meditative way to cope with the stress of treatment.
