Biography
I formally trained as an artist and art educator in Brighton where my early work was inspired from. As a developing printmaker at college I was influenced by both the playful landscapes of the Surrealist movement and moved by the emptiness of Edward Hopper’s images of America. But it is Southern Africa, where I lived and worked as an art teacher for 5 years, that had a profound effect on me injecting a new dimension to my work. It allowed me to experiment with chalk drawing mesmerised by the light and colours it had to offer, whilst enhancing my printmaking. Today my work is varied in both style and meaning, being still greatly inspired by landscapes, though I often like to include a cultural reference in order to surprise the viewer.
