About Jak Blue

  • Biography
Evolutionary ancestors. Exploring our relationship with the animal kingdom. Currently focussing on bird and animal species of the British Isles.

Spending lots of time in nature studying animals in their natural environment helps me connect and better understand my subject. We are hugely privileged to share this planet with so many magnificent species. I look in awe and wonder. Hard to understand how protecting them is not our number one priority...

I mainly paint with oil on stretched canvas. Make rough paintings in ink on board and charcoal on rag. Do print making in various techniques, wood cut, lino and etch plate. Doodle on scraps of paper and in note books. Sometimes digitally in Photoshop. Shape vector nodes in Illustrator and sometimes mess around in blender building 3D characters. Zbrush is loads of fun too, I highly recommend everyone to get the free version and start digitally sculpting. It's incredibly satisfying and there's zero clean up involved!

    Education:

2022 – Animation, Griffith College, IE
2015 – Drawing, The Model, IE
2010 – Screen printing, LCC, UK
2005 – Oil painting, Morley College, UK
1995/1996 – Graphic Art, Design and Communication, ZA
