About Isabel Hutchison

  • Biography
I grew up loving painting and drawing, and drawing pictures was all I wanted to do, both the doing and the seeing, thus I am  a very visual person in the experience of my life.  As a child any academic lessons that involved drawing were the ones that I ended up being good at, that was my pleasure.  I was born in Hertfordshire but by the time of my teens we had moved to the East Anglian coast, hence my love of painting the sea.  I am not formally art college trained, and I received my first commission whilst travelling in Australia in my late twenties, it was to paint a mural in someone's house, and that led to further commissions, which ultimately changed my career path altogether, from interior designer to painter, although I still enjoy the former.  In 1994 I had my first one man show, after painting all of the Bridges of London that were then exhibited in the Tower Bridge walkway's on its centenary.  Following on from there I discovered Artichoke Printworks; an open access print studio in Brixton that had recently been set up, thus I became a printmaker too.  A large volume of my work over the years has been done to commission, painting children, adults and their animals, but I love a little space now and again to produce my own art, my vision, and things I wish to capture either through painting or printmaking.  My studio is in London and I share a home with my partner in East Hampshire.
