Lots to see here... An exhibition of large format digital prints; the exhibited prints are a continuation of a series of work which began a few years ago with experiments with mosaics.
Ian has a fascination with rapid, hastily executed sketches with an almost throwaway quality - yet which often hold a wealth of meaning. "I draw a sketch, and then incorporate fragments of photography (always my own) in my designs. I use very occasional cultural references, and naïve animal forms. Now and then, I jump back to my original creative passion - photography. I use a palette of hundreds of these photographic images, creating textures and overlays. I use mainly digital media, and make compositions with differing perspectives and fragmentation."

A new exhibition on our balcony gallery space starts this week, by digital artist Ian Clegg Walsh.
See news: FBook "Batley Art Gallery" page. There are 19 works on exhibition. This extract is from the artist's description: Its a real privilege to have an exhibition in my home town. There's a mixture of old and new. Some of the pieces date from around 1996 when I had a fascination with mosaics, and then along came the vector phase, so it's a bit of a mishmash. Lately my thing is to incorporate layered tones from my own photography around a sketch. Hope you enjoy it ...

Biography
"Love the jazzy emotion; makes me want a pinstriped fedora and a strong cigar." This was a recent twitter comment on a print of mine. I doubt I have the ability to say it any better !!!
...... Two of my artworks are now published in the USA. And/Or is a print journal for creative experimental writing and/or innovative graphic art. The journal seeks submissions from writers and/or other sorts of artists whose work openly challenges the boundaries (mimetic, aesthetic, symbolic, cultural, political, philosophical, economic, spiritual etc.) of literary and/or artistic expression
A hand drawn sketch is my usual starting point. The sketch is then digitized. I haven't found a satisfactory method to do this using software, so I manually trace my own sketch! My own photographic images are used for the toning material. Once the color has been applied, I build up the design with areas of tone. Chance plays its part - often the lead role. I want to see something that will excite me! I can emphasize or de-emphasize once everything is in place, and combine the precision of photography with the beauty of print making...
My first love was Art, then photography, and later print-making. Finally now I'm creating art that is a blend of all three! Don't be surprised to see the occasional photograph among my Artworks for sale. Enjoy what you see !!
