About Stephen Hoppe

  • Biography
I am a lover of nature, I spend my photo shooting days travelling the US visiting preserved space and capturing the variety of landscapes found within national, state, and local parks. My art tries to reflect a world untouched, as natural as can be in the modern era. I am trained as a theatrical lighting designer and have had a 15 year career in architectural lighting design. These skills have given me a keen sense of light and space. While I create the light in my design work, I love the challenge of using natural light in my photography; setting up a perfect composition and waiting for that fleeting moment of superb light is the goal. I also wish to share my love of nature with other people who appreciate the precious spaces we are losing so quickly to climate change and overpopulation. I see my art as a way to share the beauty of the natural world, but also a way to document our planet in a fast changing environment, just a few generations from now these spaces may be lost forever. Preserving the beauty I find in nature and sharing it with others is what drives me to continue my adventures and capturing these amazing places.
