  • Biography
MY work is driven through my interaction with a person, whether in a studio situation or a genre in life.  From the time I was a child, I always enjoyed drawing people.  I made all the paper dolls for t he kids in school and designed fashions using colored pencil and water on whatever scraps of paper I could find.  I sketched on napkins with ball point pen and once had a napkin show !
At 19 , I hitchiked out to San Fransicsco from Omaha, Nebraska to become a pastel and charcoal portrait artist and although I was self taught, I had the ability to capture ones likeness on the paper.
after drawing portraits on the streets for a few years, I met a hairdresser who wanted to trade a portrait for a haircut. During our sitting she convinced me to get a "real " job and start cutting hair for a living....so I went to beauty school and did hair for the next 35 years ..and never drew anything again until I was 55 years old.
Then I went to college for building preservation and I had a project that allowed me to tap back into my artistic abilities.  I painted in acrylic for the first time in over 30 years.
More  recently, I discovered oil painting , which has become my passion.  I have a loose style that is painterly, thinking about color and light and the energy of brush marks. This is the style I am naturally working in and drawn to.
I am always thinking about a painting even when I am not in the act of doing.  My favorite genre is painting people, from portraiture to figure and people in the landscape, however, I will paint anything that inspired me at the moment, My style tends to be more modern impressionistic and I am inspired byt the Russian impressionist the most.
