About Helene Buttling

  • Biography
"I am fascinated by the light and shapes of things.  Whether it's neon lights, Christmas lights, early morning light or the sharp summer light that hits buildings and makes angles and shadows.

I can be attracted to many different subjects as it's the shapes and light I see first and the subject second.  So it may be a landscape or an urban subject or a still life."

Helene Buttling has worked as an artist for over 35 years and has exhibited widely both in international Salons in France, Italy, Poland, galleries in Britain and solo exhibitions in Paris and South West France.  Her work has been selected by the European Arts Commission for an exhibition in St. Petersburgh, Russia and in 2014 Saatchi online gallery selected her work as one of fifty artists for their on line collection of contemporary artists.

She is fascinated by light and shapes and paints a wide range of subjects including landscapes, still lives, portraits and urban scenes.  She aims to capture the light and atmosphere of a subject and the moment captured in time.

She has worked in graphic art near London in the 1970's and in marketing in South Wales where she moved with her husband before becoming a self-employed artist.  She moved to France in 1992 and apart from exhibiting has worked for the General Council of the Charente to teach and promote art.  One of her paintings was selected by the bank Credit Agricole for the opening of their bank in Salgau, Germany.

She has a permanent exhibition of her work at her gallery/studio near Chalais, South West France, where she has been teaching art for the last 16 years.
