About Heather Kerley

I create art as a way to explore my own thoughts and experiences and to know life and myself on a deeper level. My work is curiosity- and process-driven. I am always exploring what textures look like combined with others, what one color might look like in relation to others. Destruction, rearrangement, and layering are essential aspects to my process. These conditions are a way I can stumble onto interesting things and find new ways of looking. For this reason, mixed media collage is a favorite medium for me. My collages are made up from torn older pieces. Similarly, my large paintings are dynamic explorations of layered elements and marks. I also make textile art, often using vintage fabric as a base for abstraction.
