  • Biography

    Hannah Pratt is an interdisciplinary artist who examines the relationship between art and science. Pratt's main subjects of focus are astronomy, the future of space travel, data literacy and climate change. She uses these subject matters to tell a story that will raise awareness of global issues affecting our lives today. 

    She works with a number of different mediums including painting, drawing, textiles and printing. Her subject matters and the mediums she uses to make her work create a partnership between analogue and digital art-making techniques which mirror the relationship between art and science. 

    ​Hannah has exhibited and taken part in residencies extensively and recently her work was launched into space as part of the Art in Space programme run by Planet Labs. She also works with creative practitioners such as musicians and other visual artists to help to create a library of responses to contemporary scientific research.

    The show seeks to represent a varied selection of the artists’ work. This group of artists from different backgrounds, experiences and styles are brought together around a shared ethos of collaboration, respect and sharing. They all see the world around them in different ways, and this exhibition illustrates their way of seeing.
    There are 12 artists showcasing a diverse range of work which includes drawing, painting, photography, print, mixed media and wall-based sculpture.
    The exhibition will invite the viewer to consider the changing world around us as seen and experienced by each artist.

    Venue: The Crypt Gallery, St Pancras Church, Euston Road, London

    The culmination of Lumen’s Residency in Atina, Italy, between 1-17 August 2018. The resident artists and exhibition have been curated by Louise Beer, Melanie King, Rebecca Huxley and Natasha Sabatini.

    This two-week residency was set up to help like-minded artists from multi-disciplines develop their practice in a relaxed, yet productive environment. The peaceful village of Atina, situated 154km from Rome in the province of Frosinone-Lazio, benefits from natural darkness, natural beauty and is a great spot for viewing the Moon, stars and meteor showers.

    Staying on site, artists had the opportunity to create works responding to the variety of astronomical sights found there.

    Artists benefitted from a large studio space, telescope access, a basic darkroom and visits to Campo Cassino Observatory, Montecassino Abbey, Santa Maria Assunta and CAMUSAC Gallery.

    The Postgraduate Art Auction returned to the Lethaby Gallery, bringing together an incredible collection of donations from our celebrated alumni, friends and students. Lots in the live auction, for which we welcomed returning auctioneer-extraordinaire Adrian Biddell, include generous donations from Raqib Shaw, Antony Gormley, Mona Hatoum, Laure Prouvost, Grayson Perry, Kathy Prendergast, Matthew Krishanu, Peter Doig, and Emma Talbot.
