About HAL BOHNER

The driving force behind my art is a desire to explore and participate in the energy that flows through all of nature. I generally paint with oils or watercolors, and the mediums have an energy of their own. I find that watercolors have a wonderful freshness and vitality when I apply the paint with a light touch and allow it the freedom to do its own thing. I love the tactile experience of applying oil paint, which can be remarkably fluid and expressive. My work as an artist is to determine how to express emotion or sensation. I strive to turn ineffable feelings into something concrete and paintable, and ultimately transfer a sense of experience, memory, or energy to the viewer.

I live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I paint primarily landscapes and seascapes in oil and watercolor. My paintings are the product of my lifelong passion for nature and explore powerful forces of the natural world, such as wind and surf.
