About Gustaf Enebog

  • Biography

I, Gustaf Enebog is a Swedish painter and draftsman living in the quaint Bavarian city of Coburg in Germany. My studio where I also hold courses and workshops and display my work is just a ten-minute walk from our apartment at the Cities Main City Square.

I am most recognized for my landscapes paintings, cityscapes and Still life's however my motives are very diverse. I guess I am too curious to stop the constant flow of impulses and ideas that keeps falling into my head from left and right.

I feel emotional and nostalgic about objects be this artefact like food containers and... well anything really or objects of nature such as leaves and pine cones. I do not need to have them or own them. I just need to depict them, capture the beauty that I see in them. When I have expressed this on paper or canvas (or pixels). I have expressed my emotions and I can show them to others, and this gives me satisfaction and relieve. I think this is my first and foremost driving force behind drawing and painting!

The same goes for the nature in which I see Gods personality expressed. I am fascinated by the intrinsic pattern of a pinecones or the epic beauty of a grand landscape. With Cityscapes it is similar, but it is another kind of beauty. The chaotic human-built structures of nestled houses, bridges, tunnels, construction sites, buzzling traffic and crisscrossing people cannot compete in purity and harmony but well in an intriguing concentrate of atmosphere and character.

As with my motives I also use multiple media. My mainstay however will probably always be the same as my first love: the almighty pencil as well as watercolor/Gouache together with various ink-pens and fun effects like toothbrush splatter and gold leaf.

The line whether it comes from a pencil, ink or a brush is the foundation in all my work. I think the structure that the line brings is so intrinsic to who I am that I cannot do without it even when painting where the line typically have to step aside for the "fill".

I like to work on larger scale, especially in oil. I do not know exactly why but maybe it makes the painting feel more magnificent and impressive, kind of like: “This is a painting”.

The direct ideas and inspiration for my motives comes from what I see around me in everyday life and not seldom does my impetus for starting a painting come from my ever-growing folder of own photos and screen shots.
