About Gjergji Rumbullaku

  • Biography
The short version is that I'm a self taught painter with an interest in realistic art.
The longer version really starts a couple of years ago. When covid hit, and everything shut, I suddenly had a lot more time to dedicate to painting, and I immediately found it more fulfilling that my glamorous finance career. And that is how my switch to full time painting started. I've been trying new styles and perfecting my usual ones in the past year or so, and am finally ready to share with the world the culmination of that journey. Mind you, I've been painting since I was a kid; well, not painting, perhaps drawing, at that point. But still, this is not a new endeavour by any means, and yet it feels like a new achievement to have made it so far. During the pandemic I explored photorealistic techniques and I quite liked it; I'm also quite happy with the few works I managed to produce that almost look like photos. These past months I've dedicated more time to impasto works; I'm quite proud of the collection of palette knives I've amassed, and I have to say I absolutely enjoy both the process and the results. So I think I'll continue to explore that for a while longer. I paint subjects that catch my eye, or that I conjure up when I daydream, so in that sense I feel quite privileged in having no restrictions to my work.
