About Gilbert Lessard

  • Biography
I am inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds me: the shapes, colours, sounds, smells, air. Landscapes are my preferred subject matter, especially, serene, relaxing, scenes.  I love to see my paintings come alive with each brush stroke. I paint scenes that people can identify with, scenes that bring them back in time to a place where they acquired happy thoughts and positive experiences. I enjoy painting with aerial perspective and little nooks and crannies in the distance which awakens curiousity. 'I wonder what is behind that bush or hill...'
My still life paintings are done in vivid colours, with objects posed on reflective surfaces giving a three dimensional effect. Oftentimes a little whimsical feature is added for interest.
I also enjoy painting images of automobiles, especially those of years gone by, when highly reflective chrome was used extensively.
I paint with multilayers of oils and glazes, adding the illusion depth and space.
