Biography
Hello, I’m Gerry and I’m a photographer, illustrator and print maker.
I'm originally from Edinburgh, but now call London home. I live and work in South East London, I have a studio with Thames-side Studios in Woolwich, the studio development is the largest single site art studio in Europe. There are over 400 different studios here with artists practising many different disciplines, I have my own studio where I illustrate and make preparatory sketches/prints. I do all my editioning on site at the Thames-side print studios, a large co-op of printers where we have all the facilities for fine art printing.
As the name suggests the studio is by the river! When I want to take a break from illustrating and printing I can take a coffee and sit on the sea wall and watch the boats go by and watch the planes take off from London City Airport which is just across the river from us. I'm at my happiest in the print studio watching colour after colour going down on a new edition.
My prints are detailed studies of urban scenes. The works often chart the progress of different characters through the street scenes, exploring the relationships between people and place.
The prints are all based on my original photographs, with up to 27 photographs from the same location stitched together to capture the characters and their journeys through the space before being painstakingly traced and coloured to come up with the final prints.
