University Club Announces Seventh “Artist in Residence”

ALBANY, NY – July 28, 2016 – In addition to paintings by Jonathan Bradley Morse, Walter Launt Palmer and sculpture by Terri Boor, the Living Room, Lobby and Dining Room of the University Club of Albany, have long featured works from a variety of local artists.
From September 2 through December 2016, the University Club will present a solo exhibition of the works of Geoffrey Doig-Marx, who will serve as the Club’s seventh Artist in Residence.

Biography
Visual Artist-
Geoffrey Doig-Marx (GDM)
Geoffrey Doig-Marx (GDM) left home at age 15 and lived in runaway shelters and group homes in the Albany area. In the mid-1980s he moved to New York City and started his career in dance, musical theatre and choreography. In December of 2011, Doig-Marx moved to Harlem where he started painting, photographing, writing and hasn’t looked back.
Now with over 500 paintings and thousands of photographs, GDM is everywhere. Presently, he is the resident Artist of POSH NYC (3 years), is illustrating a children’s book for Emmy Award Winner Andrea Green, based on her musical “On the Other Side of the Fence”, and has had several showings of his work in several New York venues, including the Pecora Building and historic nightclub Alibi in Harlem. His first New York gallery showing was at The Lanyon 36 Gallery in 2015. For more information, visit
Doig-Marx is on faculty at Marymount Manhattan College (16 yrs), Montclair State University (6 yrs) and Rider/ARB’s Princeton Ballet School (13 yrs). He is an active member of Actor’s Equity and an Associate Member of The Society of Directors and Choreographers and Former Artistic Director of The Mantis Project Dance Company (10 yrs). As a performer, Doig-Marx appeared in the Equity National Tours and Regional Theater Productions of West Side Story, Pippin, A Chorus Line, Dames at Sea, Cabaret, La Cage aux Folles, Fiddler on the Roof, Jesus Christ Superstar and many others.
He maintains close ties to the arts scene in Albany though membership in the Upstate Artists Guild, and a number of choreography credits at Park Playhouse, including Fiddler on the Roof (2004), Annie Get Your Gun (2010), The Producers (2011), Cabaret (2012), Spamalot (2013) and Hands on a Hardbody (2014).
