About Francis Allwood
Biography
I am an artist-printmaker based in a small town in the Cheshire countryside and work from my little attic studio where I have a beautiful cast iron etching press.
I love to draw and study through drawing is at the core of everything I do - learning about the lines and contours of my subject. Printmaking is an extension of this; it is another way of drawing that enriches and enlivens my messy studies. I adore the physical processes involved in making original prints.
I focus largely on intaglio and monotype printmaking techniques and animals and nature are my primary inspiration (cows and chickens have been longstanding friends in my sketchbooks).
The wonderful nature of original prints means that each piece is an artwork in its own right, hand-crafted using skilled manual printmaking techniques from start to finish by me. I will only send you pieces made by hand, by me, and never a computer generated reproduction.
