  • Biography

    London-based artist Flora Butler graduated with a 1st Class Degree from The University of the Arts London in 2018. She has since founded the community-focused publishing company The Mindful Editions, works with charity Chayn to facilitate a series of creative workshops for survivors of gender-based violence, and continues to develop her painting practice. Butler’s work focuses on the intricate patterns present in nature and highlights their beauty. Inspired by images of cells from different mushrooms and plants, her paintings play with shape and texture, using different mediums to create depth and form. She has had pieces exhibited in galleries across the UK, taken part in numerous group shows, and held her first solo show, Aria, in Hackney at the start of 2022.

    Event: Seeds of Change

    Event: EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED IN LIFE: ART AND WELLBEING

    The Gerald Moore Gallery is delighted to present Everything is Connected in Life: Art and Wellbeing, an exhibition that serves as a conclusion to the gallery’s 3-year Art Therapy and Wellbeing in Schools Project, as well as exploring connections between art and mental well-being in three emerging artists’ works. The exhibition's title is inspired by a hand-written statement by an unnamed man in Gillian Wearing’s photographic work Signs that Say What You Want Them To Say and Not Signs that Say What Someone Else Wants You To Say1992–1993 (1997). The exhibition will run from 11 January to 3 February 2024.

    The exhibition features new artworks by Flora Butler, Semin Hong and Nandhit Reddy Vasanth that directly explore wellbeing through their art in the forms of textile sculptures, interactive kinetic art, and painting.

    An exhibition celebrating renewal, radical softness, gestures of care, the bravery of joy, unselfconsciousness, fleeting moments, crushes, daydreams, hope, yearning and enduring, despite it all.

    Event: A Slash of Blue

    Dates: 3 Mar 2023 - 8 Apr 2023

    Venue: Gerald Moore Gallery, Mottingham Lane, London, SE9 4RW

    Gerald Moore Gallery is delighted to present A slash of Blue- our annual open-call exhibition, this year with an emphasis on painting. The title for this exhibition comes from the poem ‘A slash of Blue-‘ by the American poet Emily Dickinson:

    A slash of Blue –
    A sweep of Gray –
    Some scarlet patches on the way,
    Compose an Evening Sky –
    A little purple – slipped between –
    Some Ruby Trousers hurried on…

    The call was open to all artists living in London and the Southeast. Artists were asked to submit an image of a painting that worked in relation to the poem; this was open to wide interpretation. The scope of the entries was vast and varied.

    A slash of Blue- runs from 3rd March – 8th April 2023. The opening event is on Friday, 3rd March, 4 – 8pm.

    The exhibition is open to the public every Saturday 10am to 4pm until 8th April 2023 or by appointment for other days.
