    Our Lady of the jungle

In the heart of the lush Maya jungle, you stand before a striking contemporary sculpture—a concrete bust of Santa Maria perched upon a grand slab of natural stone. With no visible arms or body, she is depicted in a prayerful stance, hands clasped around a rosary. The interplay of the sculpture's hardness, the rugged stone, and the vibrant, delicate jungle that surrounds it evokes a profound sense of connection between the divine and nature. Within this captured image lies a fleeting and symbolic moment—an act of delicately refining the sculpture, seeking to unveil a smoother texture. The sculpture's placement within the sanctuary of San Pio in Cancun adds an extra layer of meaning. In this sacred setting, the artwork finds its true home, seamlessly blending the divine and the earthly, the ancient and the contemporary.

    Saint Pio Praying the Rosary

    Saint Pio Praying the Rosary

The sculpture is an expressionist depiction of a kneeling friar praying. Sain Pio. It stands at almost three meters tall. The friar's habit is adorned with small pieces of marbled volcanic stones, giving it a textured and visually captivating appearance. The sculpture follows a modern aesthetic and incorporates symbolic elements. The friar's ears are slightly larger, symbolizing the importance of listening while praying the Rosary. The closed eyes represent the need for internalizing and reflecting on the prayers. The forehead is slightly broader, signifying the importance of contemplating the divine mystery. The friar's hands are in a supplicating position, holding a rosary between them. The rosary is made of glued marble stones, with beads of different sizes. Each bead is composed of numerous tiny stones, each with a unique shape, adding a distinct and artistic touch to the rosary. The piece is located in Cancun, Mexico, at the sanctuary of San Pio, alongside seven other sculptures of my own authorship.
