About Elizabeth McDonough

  • Biography

    I am a Self-taught UK born artist

Living in Manchester, Mauritius & Gibraltar during my career & recently relocating to warm, friendly Malta.

Since leaving Mauritius my work has changed & progressed. Being connected to the everyday customer & working with them to create something special; embedding their quintessence whilst staying true to myself is most fulfilling.

I have had many life changing & profound moments; one being a vision quest in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, California. Camping alone in the wilderness, no food, only water for four days & four nights.

Interested in the intangible, that which we feel but cannot translate. My paintings begin with feelings derived from alternative perspectives bordering on a spiritual level

Working the contrasts of depth, texture & luminosity with a slightly obsessive edge, intricacy & layering. I choose to take you on a journey of the cosmos around me & the discovery of art being a spiritual experience.

Inspirations for me are found within the colours of nature; such as the iridescence of a paua shell or reflected light underwater. Meditation & music also help inspire me to create.

I have become part of several art consultancies & interior design platforms serving a more commercial & high end luxury customer base.

Exhibiting predominantly online has been beneficial for me though occasionally I enjoy supporting a local exhibition.

Building professional relationships which work amiably when dealing with new clients & commissions are gratifying, stretching my abilities especially when working on evolving criteria & critique to a tight deadline

Staying open minded to a piece progressing organically rather than holding onto a fixed idea of the end result has been imperative to working on commissions.

Being fluid has been essential to my growth & confidence. Working this way has been auspicious, each piece of art feeling like my best work.

    Event: Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival

    Dates: 18 Oct 2013 - 22 Nov 2013

Venue: Pyramid & Parr Hall, Palmyra Square South, Cultural Quarter, Warrington, Cheshire WA1 1BL

The third Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival will kick off in style on Friday 18 October with a whole host of unique arts events taking place across three venues in Warrington’s Cultural Quarter. I have a piece of photography in The Pyramid and will be joining in the Artisan Fair at The Museum & Gallery on Sat 2nd Nov.

The public are invited to join the FREE Cultural Crawl which starts at 6pm at Gallery At Bank Quay House on the 18th Oct where this year’s Open Art Exhibition will be housed.

The Cultural Crawl will then move around the corner to Pyramid where David Ogle, an artist from Lymm and the winner of Sculpture Shock 2013, will exhibit his work using beams of light to create unique temporary forms that respond to the room around them. The work of Warrington visual artist Tracy Hill, winner of the Open at Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival 2011, will also be on show at Pyramid. Her new work is based upon research-mapping of Warrington’s hidden pathways to reveal the town’s lost and hidden spaces.

Warrington Museum & Art Gallery is the final stop on the culture bus where the winners of the Open exhibitions will be announced at 8.30pm with guest judges including Sarah Jayne Parsons from Liverpool’s Bluecoat and Terry Johnson, winner of the 2012 photography Open. The competition includes visual arts and photography with prizes for first, second and people’s choice.

One special guest will also take part in the crawl, Jeremy Bailey – one man in Vienna and an iPad. He’ll be poking fun at the practices and languages of new media to create stimulating trans-media and live performances whilst in a completely different country.

The fun doesn’t stop at the end of the Cultural Crawl, join us for the after party hosted at The Palmyra from 8.30pm until late with a special appearance from Wild Writers, a unique literary performance collective from a group of artists and musicians based in Liverpool.

The festival runs for four weeks from Friday 18 October until Friday 22 November coinciding with Warrington hosting the Rugby League World Cup. Artwork and interventions from critically acclaimed artists including Polly Morgan, Claire Weetman, At The Edge of Darkness, The Harold Thomas Collection and performances from Kepow Theatre Company, Sophie Willan and Twelve Degrees North will be taking place across Warrington.
