Biography
Elen Bezhen is a painter who works at the intersection of the New Medievalism concept and ecofeminist ideas. In her works, she often addresses themes related to the relationship between nature and humans, specifically focusing on the feminine image. Elen Bezhen works and exhibits under a creative pseudonym, and her real name is Elena Bezhenova.
The artist Elen Bezhen’s love for the old masters has significantly influenced her choice of techniques and technologies
in the artistic process. Inspired by early Renaissance painters, Elen actively integrated their methods into her works. Over time, these traditional techniques have transformed and adapted, becomingmore than just visual painting effects. They have deeply rooted in her artistic practice, becoming a key element that enriches herpainting with unique texture and depth.
Elen was born in the Caucasus. Her birthplace determined her interest in studying and observing nature. Elen is professionally engaged in entomology and has a personal collection of insects.
In her work, Elen Bezhen often takes
us back to the aesthetics of the early Renaissance and the Middle Ages. Her style is uniquely positioned at the intersection of eras, blending medieval motifs with contemporary art.
She studied at the Moscow Academy of Arts and then completed a course in contemporary art at the Rodchenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia.
Currently, Elen Bezhen lives and works in Grenoble, France.
