About Elaine Marshall

  • Biography
My inspiration has come from travels in France, Italy and Nepal. Tuscan hills and Nepalese rice terraces are among the landscape patterns that appear in my etchings and lino cuts. Observing urban foxes in my garden influenced a series of lino cuts. Paintings from Nebamun's tomb chapel have inspired lino cuts from the hunting scenes. At my studio in Greenwich I work in several printmaking techniques. As well as making etchings
and collagraphs on my Rochat etching press, a recent acquisition of an 1850 Albion relief printing press has
inspired a series of colour lino cuts on the patterns of mazes and labyrinths, and multiple images of imaginary butterflies and insects.

I am a founder member and gallery manager of the Greenwich Printmakers Gallery where my work is permanently in stock, and have exhibited widely in the UK and abroad. My work is in many private and public collections including the National Maritime and Victoria and Albert Museums.
