About Dorin Nebunu

  • Biography

Nebunu Dorin was born in Cahul, Moldova in 1994. He studied at the National College of Fine Arts from Chișinău in 2015 and the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts from Chișinău in 2020.

Inspired by traditional decorative art of Moldova, which includes tapestry, ceramic work and household tools of Moldova; Nebunu Dorin synthetises the old spirit of working the land with modern materials and tools, as a raw but vital form of expressing the former’s colour and shapes. At the same time, he wishes to express that spirit’s deep roots in “chernozem”, which offered the basic means of survival for the people of Moldova who found themselves under the rule of various regimes, which perverted their culture and traditions.

You can find Nebunu Dorin’s artworks at the Brâncuși Gallery, which is one of the few places in Chișinău known for exhibiting the works of up-and-coming artists a couple of times a year. Nebunu Dorin also participates in art exhibitions such as Jan Matejko, organized at the National Philharmonic of Moldova; and took part in events such as “Tripad in Chișinău”, “Cuhnești Art Symposium”, “Drochia Art Symposium”, “Retezat art Symposium”.

Recently he has been working on a couple of solo shows in Chișinău, where he will present the results of his the last two year of the pandemic’s work, which is marked by profound self-assessment but also outbursts of spontaneity.

    Event: Terestru

    Dates: 6 Jun 2021 - 6 Jul 2021

Venue: Teatrul Alexei Mateevici, Strada Alexei Şciusev 93, Chișinău, Moldova

On the way of finding the self I realized that I was always transposing the ‘’when?’’ , ‘’what?’’ and ‘’where?’’ through a personalized experience guided by raw, primal and naive decisions taken in that elusive moment on the border of the conscious and unconscious.

Grasping at the richness of this moment I find myself applying the next layer of color onto the canvas.

    Event: Tapat

    Dates: 5 May 2021 - 27 May 2021

Venue: Cartego Bookstore, Vlaicu Pârcălab 2, Chișinău, Moldova, 2009
