  • Evolution of the painting 'The One That Got Away'

    This very short video shows the evolution of the painting of a peregrine falcon clutching a grass snake in his talons as he sits upon a pine stump. The little snake has taken the opportunity of the bird's being distracted, and he slithers from the talons. Acrylic on canvas, 20 X 24. The finished piece is painted on the sides and ready to hang.

    My husband snapped this picture as I was putting finishing touches on "Heron in the Pines" in my studio in our home in Nevada. As 2016 draws to a close, I look toward a new year of bringing the calm of the natural world into my art and into my collectors' homes. My sincere gratitude to all who have appreciated my work.

    Spending a great deal of time in the desert Southwest of the United States has added new colors and subjects to my works. The starkness of the desert has its own kind of beauty and is far removed from the green, tree-covered slopes of the Appalachians in the eastern U.S. I am working on a new desert scene and will post pictures as it progresses.
